About the R2AK

Team Teewinot is competing in the 2018 Race to Alaska (R2AK), a sail and human powered boat race. The race is from Port Townsend, Washington to Ketchikan, Alaska, with a stopover in Victoria, British Columbia. The fourth running of the race starts June 14th at 0500. The restart in Victoria is June 17th at noon.

No engines are allowed to be present on the boat at all, and no outside assistance is allowed beyond what is normally available in towns along the way. Except there are long stretches without towns. The race is winner take all, with no different categories or classes of boats. This year the entries range from 44 foot monohulls and 30+ foot multihulls to kayaks and standup paddleboards!

We are entering the race to face the seamanship challenge imposed by the endeavor, and to have a great adventure while travelling along some spectacularly wild and beautiful coastline. There are not too many places left on the planet with so much wilderness coastline without much human impact.
